The Dutch Joomla Days will take place at 12 & 13 June 2009 in the Mercure hotel in Nieuwegein. The event is aimed as much at the Joomla community as it is at professionals. The two day event will have a business - and a community oriented day.
This year I will be giving a training on professional Joomla implementation. The training will be a joint effort of three 2value associates. I will be talking about the use of Subversion in developing and deploying large Joomla sites.

Glass fiber internet connections are the future of broadband internet. It the next couple of years the amount of fiber connections is expected to grow exponentially. Right now the large communication corporations, cable suppliers, etc are making the necessary investments in the required infrastructure. Contrary to the introduction of DSL internet connections a couple of years ago, glass fiber requires a completely new web of cables. In large parts the in The Netherlands these cables still need to be placed but in a quite a few spots glass fiber connections are already available. Chances are you yourself will switch to fiber in the next 5 years or so. It's about time then, that a community around this topic is launched. Enter: glasvezel.nu. This community website collects news about Dutch fiber initiatives and investments. Furthermore the website reviews hardware fit for fiber, explains the ins and outs such as: different connection types, applications, and details on the service suppliers. Finally the site has a postal code check that allows you to check for available connections on your address and that lists the various prices and subscriptions.

Sinds een maandje of twee is de site Hier mag het wel in de lucht. Het project is een initiatief van Tressis. De site is een zoekgids voor horecageledenheden waar je (legaal) mag roken. Als een café een verwarmd terras of aparte rookruimte heeft komt ie in aanmerking voor opname in de gids. Zo kunnen rokers en niet-rokers makkelijk een gezamenlijke avond buiten de deur plannen. Deze weken wordt er ook gestemd voor de Revu Rookpluim. Samen met weekblad Revu nomineren we de beste horecagelegenheid waar je mag roken per provincie. Je kunt 1 keer stemmen op de horecagelegenheid die jij het beste vindt. De resultaten worden gepubliceerd in de Revu.

Sinds een paar weken is Tracing Vincent online. De site is een community rondom Vincent van Gogh. De naam (edit 7 juni: was Virtual Starry Night) verwijst naar Van Goghs beroemde schilderij De Sterrennacht. Developersclub Tressis heeft een aantal schilderijen van Van Gogh in Second Life in 3D nagemaakt zodat je "in het schilderij" rond kunt lopen. Na het succes van deze virtuele schilderijen is er nu dus ook een site rondom Van Gogh gelanceerd. De site werkt op drupal en heeft een paar interessante functies. Zo kun je, door een kopppeling naar Google Maps, kijken waar alle schilderijen zijn gemaakt en waar ze nu hangen. Verder bevat de site een schat aan informatie over Van Gogh, nieuws over exposities en andere gebeurtenissen, een forum en winkel.
